TFS Presents a Sherlock Holmes Double Feature!
Details
On Sunday, November 30, at the Paradise Theatre in Toronto, the Toronto Film Society is showing a Sherlock Holmes double feature - two films for one low price!
First up is Murder by Decree (1979): Sherlock Holmes meets Jack the Ripper in this moody, atmospheric thriller that blends classic detective work with chilling true crime. Christopher Plummer brings warmth and wit to Holmes, while James Mason’s Dr. Watson is the perfect steadying foil. Directed by Bob Clark (yes, the same Bob Clark who made A Christmas Story), Murder by Decree is a richly stylized mystery that explores the dark underbelly of Victorian London—and delivers suspense with a sharp social conscience. A must for fans of Holmes and horror alike.
Next up is The Pearl of Death (1944): Basil Rathbone’s razor-sharp Sherlock Holmes faces off against one of his most terrifying foes yet in this fast-paced mystery based on “The Six Napoleons.” When a priceless jewel goes missing and bodies start piling up, Holmes and Watson (a delightfully bumbling Nigel Bruce) must unravel a deadly trail of clues—leading to the monstrous “Creeper,” played with chilling menace by Rondo Hatton. Full of shadowy streets, clever deductions, and old-school thrills, The Pearl of Death is a classic Holmes caper with a horror twist
