What we’re about
## 🏛️ WELCOME TO THE EGLINTON HISTORY SALON
Looking for smart conversation without the pressure? The Eglinton History Salon is a casual, welcoming space where we explore history and politics over drinks and good company—every Sunday afternoon.
Whether you're a lifelong history nerd or just curious about the past, you're welcome here. We dive into topics that range from world empires to local politics, revolutions to weird historical trivia—all in an informal, fun, and social setting.
## đź““ HOW DOES IT WORK?
Each Sunday, we focus on a historical topic tied to a specific country, and work through the key events in chronological order. Rather than jumping around, we take a guided journey—looking at how one event leads to another, and how it all shaped the world we know today.
We meet at a cozy spot with a beautiful view—the perfect setting to sip a drink, share ideas, and let the past come alive. The atmosphere is laid-back and open: no lectures, no jargon, no need to be a history expert. Just good conversation with curious minds.
## 🧾 COST?
Totally free to attend!
## đź’¬ FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
- Do I need to know a lot about history to join?
Not at all! Whether you're a total beginner or a lifelong history lover, you'll fit right in. The goal is to explore and learn together, not show off trivia knowledge.
- What kind of topics do you cover?
Each week focuses on a historical theme or period from a specific country. We move through key events in chronological order, like telling a story together—sometimes with detours into strange or spicy historical side notes.
- Is it a lecture or a discussion?
This is a group discussion, not a class. The organizer introduces the topic and timeline, then everyone is free to jump in, ask questions, share thoughts, or just listen.
- Where is it held?
We meet in the Yonge-Eglinton area at a cozy venue with a great view, ten minutes walk from the TTC Eglinton Station.
- Why don’t I see any upcoming events listed?
We usually post each week's event on Thursday or Friday, so if you don’t see anything earlier in the week—don’t worry, it’s coming soon!
- What if I’m running late?
No problem—just try to arrive within 10 minutes of the scheduled time. We usually wait in the lobby during that window. Since the venue is inside a condo building, you’ll need keycard access to get to the lounge on the 38th floor. If you arrive late, ask the concierge for help—or just send me a message and I’ll come grab you.
