Welcome to Toronto Muslim Friends. This meetup is an opportunity for us to get together, socialize, and make new friends.

Enjoy the wonderful weather on this beautiful nature walk, learn a little about nature/birds in Canada, and appreciate God's creation. We will be walking an unofficial trail nicely intertwined with the Toronto midtown area.

Schedule

9:30 Meet and take photos in the beautiful flower garden. People come from across Toronto to take photos here so if you're into photos don't miss it.

10:00 We head out to the trail at 10a sharp. We will not wait or count people. If you arrive late, feel free to walk briskly along the trail to catch up.

We will walk to Sunnybrook park, have a snack, use the washroom, then walk back. We will exit the trail at Sherwood park, head to Yonge st and grab an optional lunch in Persian restaurant City Kebab.

WARNINGS

There will be hours of walking, at an easy pace, but hours.

Part of the trail is a dog off leash area. If you are uncomfortable with this, make your decision to attend accordingly.

This is a weather-dependent event, so check in before you leave home.

This is an easy hike, but not 100% flat. The trail is sometimes narrow or hilly. Handle yourself with care.

There is a lot of wildlife and I'll try to point out interesting things along the way. Please respect nature and don't be too loud.

What to get

Please wear comfortable shoes, ideally waterproof. Parts of the trail might be muddy if it rained in the days before.

Snacks and light lunch: there are zero shops along the way

Mat: if you want to have a sit-down in Sunnybrook, the seating is very limited

How to get there

Subway: Take line 1 to Lawrence station (not Lawrence West). The park is a 10 min walk from the currently-open station exit.

Let's go for an early morning hike close to home at Mount Nemo in Burlington. We will start at sunrise from a lower elevation at the base of the escarpment, and hike up the ancient limestone with fantastic views. This is a loop trail at about 6.9 km in length with 143 m of elevation gain.

After the hike, we will go to Eggstatic Mississauga for some delicious brunch

Park Reservation Fee of $11.87 per person to be paid when you reserve at Conservation Halton

📝NOTES

We are not trying to speedrun this hike, the goal is to also enjoy some nice early morning quiet time in nature, so expect it to go slow

This event will be cancelled or rescheduled in case of rain

If you are a member of a public library in the Halton region, you may be able to get a free family pass (see Burlington Public Library, Oakville Public Library or Milton Public Library)

Are you ready fora summer sailing experience?! Join us for an exciting and laid back cruise of the Toronto Harbour and Lake Ontario aboard a Tall Schooner. According to the company “it’s a traditional 165 foot three masted Schooner boat cruise. Toronto's only Tall Ship boat cruise attraction sailing … from dowmtown Toronto.”

4:30 pm We will meet at Queens Quay
5:30 pm Board the ship to set sail
7:30 pm Complete cruise
8:15 pm Join us for dinner. Tentatively at Sukho Thai on Wellington Street (menu here).

Ready for a high-flying adventure? Join us for an unforgettable day at Ascent Aerial Park in Sauble Beach, located about 3 hours north of Toronto. Tackle a thrilling 40-foot ropes course, brave a leap from the JUMP tower, and ride Canada's only zip coaster with stunning views of Lake Huron!

Ropes Course: 3 levels with 30 aerial obstacles

🚗 Carpooling Info:
As Sauble Beach is approximately 3 hours from Toronto, carpooling is highly encouraged. A few weeks before the event, I’ll post a carpool coordination spreadsheet so we can organize rides.
Note: Passengers are expected to chip in for gas as a thank-you to drivers. Please be respectful and communicative with your carpool group.
