TED Movie Night: Adapting in a changing world

Details
How can we apply the big ideas we see in TED Talks to our day-to-day work? This month we'll be watching 2 thought-provoking TED talks as a group, followed by small-group discussion about how the lessons of these talks apply to our nonprofit (how we work in general, and specifically how we work online/with technology).
The TED Talks we will watch & discuss:
-
Clay Shirky: Institutions vs. collaboration (http://www.ted.com/talks/clay_shirky_on_institutions_versus_collaboration.html) (how working with a few staff/dedicated volunteers is different from working with large groups online, how collaboration can help us get more done, the pros/cons of working this way, what we need to do differently to take advantage of this possibility)
-
Eddie Obeng: Smart failure for a fast-changing world (http://www.ted.com/talks/eddie_obeng_smart_failure_for_a_fast_changing_world.html) (when and how do we need to fail fast in our nonprofit tech projects, what this looks like, how we can encourage smart failure)
Already seen these, or want to pre-watch? No worries... in fact this may help you have more time to reflect on the ideas for the discussion.
Popcorn will be served!
(For those of you who haven't heard of TED Talks before, they are 10-20 min videos of a speaker sharing an "idea worth spreading". There are TED Talks on pretty much every topic and events held all around the world. You can find out more & watch the videos on their site: http://www.ted.com/ )
Donation cost: $5 (in cash at the door)
