Let's play "Solarpunk Futures" together

Details

Let's play Solarpunk Futures together! Here's what the creators say about the game:

"Solarpunk Futures is a storytelling game where players imagine the pathways to a desirable world from the perspective of a utopian future. Players use a deck of cards to remember Ancestors and work together using Tools and Values to overcome a set of real-world Challenges. Through dialogue and collaborative worldbuilding, collective and visionary narratives emerge of a new society, along with plausible scenarios for how to get there."

They also say on the workshop page that "this is not a competitive game", "this is a political game". Between 1-8 people can play, the ideal is 3-6, and that it takes 45 minutes. Probably our first play-through will take an hour or a bit more, since we'll be reading the rules and learning. If we have more than 8 people show up, I will also be bringing Arboretum, which is a surprisingly engaging game of arranging trees (it's very solarpunk), it takes a similar amount of time, we can have two groups which swap position after the first play of each.

I've never actually played Solarpunk Futures myself, I bought it to mine it for ideas for my Solarpunk Tarot deck project. But I'd love to try it, just be forewarned: I am expecting it to more like a short D&D campaign than like a board game experience. You'll be collaboratively telling stories in a solarpunk future with the other players.

I'm also keen to do the extra-credit questions they mention at the end of the workshop page: "Debrief: what happened briefly? anything prominent that came up? Further discussion about: What did your utopia look like? How did it feel? What will you take to your own life/organizing work? Could Solarpunk Futures be useful in your organizing work?"

If you've got other solarpunk-themed board games or anything like that, please bring those too, and we can make a whole afternoon out of it!

Also, pursuant to our discussion in the last meeting, if you've got home-made snacks, food, or beverages to share, please bring and we can all enjoy!
