Canadian Heroes and Villains: Stories of Statues and Monuments

Details
# A "Tip What You Feel" WALKING TOUR that examines the public statues and monuments, the people and events they commemorate, and the controversies around them.
## Cost
There is a $6 administrative booking fee to guarantee your spot on the tour, and you are encouraged to tip your guide what you feel the tour was worth at the end. Most guests tip $10 per person, some even more. Our guides work very hard for tips, and you are guaranteed you’ll have a GREAT tour!
## About
Join us outside Queen’s Park Station for a journey back through history! Encounter flawed generals, actors, physicians, poets, athletes, politicians – and world events -- as we explore Canada’s story in statue and mural form.
What we have found, since Canada had essentially three founding peoples -- Indigenous, French and British -- heroes of one cultural group are often the villains of the others -- and vice versa.
To paraphrase great Canadian artist Joni Mitchell: we’re looking at history from “both sides now!”
We’ll get to know or “meet” . . .
· Sir John A MacDonald
· Queen Victoria
· Norman Bethune
· The Northwest Rebellion
· John Graves Simcoe
· First World War
· Mary Pickford
· Terry Fox
· Sir Adam Beck
And many more!
We’ll also explore the work of some of the world's leading sculptors and muralists including Oscar Nemon, Leah Vivot, Alexander Bacon and Que Rock -- as well as the principle Canadian monumentalist of his age, Walter Seymour Allward, whose masterwork can be seen in the Vimy Memorial to Canada’s fallen soldiers in France.
