Want to see some fast and fantastic human-powered vehicles, including some Made in Canada?

This Canada Day, Toronto's recumbent and velomobile riders invite you to join us on a relaxed-paced, laid back bike ride 15km along the western waterfront.

We will meet at 1pm at Exhibition Place, in front of the colonial Prince's Gates. Around 1:30pm we'll cycle along the waterfront's Martin Goodman Trail passing over the Humber River which marks the start of Toronto Carrying Place, the ancient Indigenous trail. Around 2pm, we'll stop to socialize at Humber Bay Shores Park, where riders can eat, drink, and take photos with a great view of the city. Food, ice cream, and gelato may be available from the vendors across the street on Marine Parade Drive. At around 2:30 we will ride back along the Martin Goodman Trail, returning to the start point around 3pm.

What is a recumbent? What is a velomobile?
Recumbents are laid back bikes and trikes that can travel often faster and farther than traditional upright bicycles for the same energy expended. Velomobiles are aerodynamic (partially-faired or fully-enclosed) recumbent or semi-recumbent trikes that can provide weather protection and additional cargo space.

Made in low volume and still difficult to find for sale new or used, this event is your chance to see them in person and ask owners questions! Canadian and local bike manufacturers may also be in attendance. If you're curious about these 'other wheeled' vehicles that can help you move you and your kids, cargo, and pets without using fossil fuel, then this free event is for you!

This is an inclusive, family-friendly event. All rider skill levels and types of bikes are welcome! Bring your e-bike, cargo bike, hand cycle, bike trailer, etc to share your love of cycling. Put your Canada flag, Indigenous flag, or your home country flag on your bike to help celebrate our diversity of people and eco-friendly propulsion!

Distance & Terrain:
15km total on paved surfaces (bike lane and multi-use trail). We encourage you to cycle to and from the Prince's Gates to keep this event low carbon. We have kept the ride length relatively short for that reason.

What to bring:
- your bike (in good mechanical working order)
- helmet (highly recommended)
- hydration (water or energy drink)
- lunch or snack (or buy locally)

Waiver:
By RSVPing, you certify that you are in good health to participate and that your bike is in road-worthy condition.
