All club members/players get 25% of food purchases !!! Come play some chess, make friends, eat, and have a great time playing 'The Game Of Kings'. They also have an outside area, where members can play in, once the weather gets warmer. Remember, the chess is free, the venue isn't. So please patronize the host. How can you not...at 25% off !!! The discount is applied to those sitting and playing a game. This will prevent people walking in, saying they're a member, and walking out after making a purchase. Bruno's is playing this by ear. Also, understand, Bruno's is the our ONLY venue offering our members this deal. Let me see, the penne a la vodka with two meatballs is DELICIOUS. That's my go to. The sandwiches are huge. Also delicious. Nice variety of baked deserts. Hard to not stuff my face every time I go. I've gotten a lot of the members onto the pasta. They all acknowledge it's very very good. We have sets, but if you can bring your own...its never bad to have extras. We're currently over 500 adult members. It's close to 600 adult members if we include our members in the 'Boardgame Division'. No idea how many kids. Join the group on Facebook, under the same name. Answer the membership questions, and agree to the group rules, so you won't be surprised when you're declined...because you DIDN'T answer the membership questions and agree to the group rules. Looking forward to meeting all the new members and players from that part of town. Friday nights we're at Joe's Pizza. for a chess event. We added 'OJ Macs', but they're on hold until spring now, as it's gotten too cold and we used to play in their spacious back area. Mom and Pop Shop Collectibles have been added to the schedule on Saturdays from 6pm to 10pm. That's a 'Combo all games Event'. On nice days we have Sunday Outdoor Chess at Morris Park on 47th and Broadway. As of October 21 we won't be ending it, because its too cold. We'll pick up again next Spring. We also have Combo Nights at 'The Vic'. Those are on Monday nights. They purchased their own sets for customers to use whenever they want. Combo nights is boardgames & chess being played. Bring whatever boardgame you want, and go at it. We usually have Scrabble, Uno, Skip Bo, Dominoes, Life ...just to name a few. So, don't miss out on a good time...and some good food and drink.

Bad Movie Night Brooklyn: Love on a Leash
Bad Movie Night Brooklyn: Love on a Leash
**MEETUP ONLY ALLOWS 10 PEOPLE PER EVENT, BUT THIS EVENT IS OPEN TO THE PUBLIC. USE PARTIFUL LINK TO FOLLOW THIS EVENT AND SPREAD THE WORD!** https://partiful.com/e/ykpNpj6nqewM8Gk3ZlHZ Bad Movie Night Brooklyn is back, and we'll be celebrating Valentine's Day with our most romantic and sensual movie yet! A movie that dares to ask the question: "What if Man's Best Friend was also Woman's Best Romantic Option?" It's **Love on a Leash**, a notoriously bizarre film from the deeper depths of the Bad Movie iceberg, but hailed in the same breaths as other Bad Movie staples like The Room and Fateful Findings! A movie that defies all logic and sanity, Love on a Leash features a dozen increasingly weird plot points, a racist singing dog, and a story about reincarnation that'll restore your faith in true love! Or maybe it won't. Idk dawg, but this movie is nuts. Plot: Lisa has all but given up on finding her Mr. Right, but when she takes in a stray golden retriever named Prince, she gets far more than she bargained for. That's because this dog has a secret: at night, he turns into a human man! Cursed by a spirit to become a dog until he finds true love, Prince thinks Lisa may finally be the one to break the spell. But as we know, relationships are never easy, and sometimes love comes... on a leash. Pre-Show will start at 8, with the movie starting about 20 minutes after. Seating is first come, first served. Outside food is allowed, but grab a drink. You're definitely going to need one for this!
[FILM MEETUP] Season 3 (S3C1) Screening!
[FILM MEETUP] Season 3 (S3C1) Screening!
Join us on **Saturday, February 21st**, as we return to The Town School's theater for the screening of our very first challenge of Season 3! We'll be watching the incredible short films made for this challenge, kicking off the *official* start to our third season, which will run the entirety of 2026. **Note that no food or drink are allowed** and that the theater is inside of an elementary/middle school, so please be mindful and respectful of the space and arrive promptly at 1:00pm. **In order to keep the group going as it grows into new spaces, we are accepting donations at a suggested price of $10. Our mission to keep filmmaking free and accessible to all remains the same, so these funds go strictly towards operating costs. This donation is not required to attend, but your contributions go towards a great cause.** Submit films for Challenge 1 [HERE](https://shortcutsnyc.com/submit) **Deadline to submit is Thursday, February 19th by 11:59pm.** Challenge Rules for S3C1 (December 6 - February 21): * Rule 1 (Form): **Silhouette** * Rule 2 (Wildcard): **Required Line: "No One Understands"** **For S3C1, you have until February 19 to shoot a short film that utilizes at least one silhouette (get creative!) and includes the required line (spoken or written, but prominently featured), "No one understands". Do your homework! Get creative with the line. How can you subvert expectations with these elements?** * ***NOTE: If these guidelines are not met there is a high probability that your film will not be shown. Short Cuts is a learning community so you MUST learn what these rules are before planning for your film. We prioritize films that are submitted on time, are 5 minutes and under, and have the director present. Films that are submitted on time and follow the rules will be shown in ascending runtime order, and then everything submitted late will be after. No generative AI films or films largely enhanced by generative AI.*** *** At the end of the event, we will provide everyone with two randomly drawn rules from a hat as guidelines for participating in future challenges. Afterwards, you will have the opportunity to create short films following these rules. At the next meeting, you will get the opportunity to show off your film, watch what others have made, and receive the next challenge's randomly drawn rules! Note that **no** experience is required, and all you need is a camera and a way to edit and upload your film. **Short Cuts** is a group of independent filmmakers challenging themselves to create short films every \~4 weeks following a number of randomly drawn rules. Each meeting, filmmakers have the opportunity to show off their films and watch others, as well as draw the rules for the next film challenge. This group welcomes any experience level, from those who have never touched a camera, written a script, or acted in a film to seasoned veterans looking for a challenge. **DONATE:** [https://www.nyfa.org/projects/project-info/?id=CA2043](https://www.nyfa.org/projects/project-info/?id=CA2043) **INSTAGRAM:** [https://www.instagram.com/shortcutsny/](https://www.instagram.com/shortcutsny/) **DISCORD:** [https://discord.gg/XQud4Hqeen](https://discord.gg/XQud4Hqeen) **WEBSITE:** [https://shortcutsnyc.com](https://shortcutsnyc.com)

Play & Date (*New Kind Of Speed Dating Event)
Play & Date (*New Kind Of Speed Dating Event)
**\*TO ATTEND GET TICKETS AT -** [https://www.eventbrite.com/e/play-date-new-kind-of-speed-dating-sold-out-for-men-tickets-1982011580993](https://www.eventbrite.com/e/play-date-new-kind-of-speed-dating-sold-out-for-men-tickets-1982011580993) (\*Our last one sold out quickly, especially for men, so get your ticket ASAP.) Come check out this unique twist on speed dating. Join us for a unique social event for singles in NYC (20s, 30s, 40s)! Make new social connections, win raffle prizes and meet other fun singles! **HOW IT WORKS:** Our friendly host will welcome everyone and then you'll be grouped off into separate tables where you'll get to meet, chat with and play fun social games with other singles in small groups of about 4 or 5 people. Then, similar to traditional speed dating, you'll rotate from table to table getting a chance to meet all the other singles in attendance. You'll be handed a "match sheet" and at the end of the event you'll be able to indicate people you'd like to talk to again in the future. If they also choose you, our host will send you each others' contact information within about 24 hours after the event and you can feel free to set up a date with them. Let's face it, we're all tired of swiping over and over again on people who may or may not look like or be like the person they're portraying on the apps. A Play & Date speed dating event is a much better way to meet someone because you actually get to meet singles in person and really get to know them. This is entirely new and revolutionary type of speed dating event! We love the idea of traditional speed dating but sometimes it's hard to come up with things to talk about. That's why at a Play & Date speed dating event you'll have fun, easy games to play to get to know everyone instead of dealing with the usual dating "job interview" type questions. We find that it's a much better way to get to know someone! **WIN PRIZES:** You'll enjoy an evening of meeting new people, fun social interactions and games... No skill necessary, just a bit of luck! Our friendly host will be orchestrating the event and making introductions among the group. You'll participate in several games during the evening while getting a chance to interact with all members of the opposite sex. Win a game, get a raffle ticket for chances to win prizes! **WHY IT WORKS:** Through the years we've organized many speed dating events. We had a host that would sometimes invite the guests to stay around if they wanted to after the event to play some games. She would bring some fun interactive games and casino type games of chance/luck with her. We noticed something fascinating start to happen! More people would make connections at the games after the event than at the actual speed dating! That led us to creating this event. It's the perfect way to meet people in this busy city! **WHAT GAMES WILL WE BE PLAYING:** They are simple but extremely fun games that don't require much skill... they are mostly fun games of luck and chance to get the crowd mingling and having a good time. The fun games are set up to break the ice, help you gauge compatibility and make quality connections. Some of the games are similar to the most popular party games, others are like casino games that involve rolling dice and some are a little bit different but we assure you... they are really, really fun and you don't need to know how to play anything in particular (ie. we won't be playing blackjack or poker or anything like that). **FAQs:** How many people will be participating? We usually have between 20 and 30 or so people in attendance. We don't exactly gender balance the event occasionally we have a few more women than men and sometimes we have a few more men than women. Either way we make sure you get to meet a good amount of singles of the opposite gender. Can I come alone? Yes about 75% of those attending will be coming solo. But you can also invite friends to join you. Everyone must have a ticket to enter. Is there a dress code? No specific dress code. We just suggest "neat casual" *\*\* IMPORTANT QUICK NOTE: PLEASE ARRIVE ON TIME. THIS EVENT STARTS PROMPTLY AT 8:00 PM. IF YOU ARE MORE THAN 15 MINUTES LATE YOU WON'T BE ABLE TO PARTICIPATE SO PLEASE MAKE SURE TO ARRIVE ON TIME OR A LITTLE BIT EARLY. THE BAR WILL BE OPEN SO FEEL FREE TO ARRIVE EARLY AND HAVE A DRINK AT THE BAR BEFORE THE EVENT STARTS*

Put on something green, guard your pot of gold, and follow the rainbow to Young Ethel's. This seasonally-fitting horror flick features a magical creature making his big (or small) debut in Las Vegas, ready to unleash chaos and magic on some unsuspecting sinners! This has motivated efforts to characterize the molecular composition of various cell types in humans and across multiple model organisms, using both transcriptional and proteomic approaches. In this Presidential Lecture, Stephen Quake will present how his team used single-cell transcriptomics to create a human reference atlas comprising more than 1 million cells from 24 different tissues and organs, many from the same donor. This atlas enabled molecular characterization of more than 400 cell types, their distribution across tissues and tissue-specific variation in gene expression and provides an experimental basis for understanding the cell type diversity that can be generated from a single genome. [Quake](https://med.stanford.edu/profiles/stephen-quake "https://med.stanford.edu/profiles/stephen-quake") is the Lee Otterson Professor of Bioengineering and Applied Physics at Stanford University. He has received numerous awards for his contributions to science and is one of only two dozen scientists elected to all three National Academies. Previously, he was head of science at the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative (2022–2025), founding co-president of the Chan Zuckerberg Biohub (2016–2022), a Howard Hughes Medical Institute investigator (2006-2016), and a professor at the California Institute of Technology (1996–2005). \-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\- After the lecture, CFI-NYC members are invited to go to dinner and continue the conversation.

The Wife Between Us (Feb 26)
The Wife Between Us (Feb 26)
**The Wife Between Us** By: Greer Hendricks & Sarah Pekkanen * About 350 pages [depending on publisher/edition] * Rated 3.6 on StoryGraph * Rated 3.8 on GoodReads **Back of Jacket:** When you read this book, you will make many assumptions. You will assume you are reading about a jealous ex-wife. You will assume she is obsessed with her replacement – a beautiful, younger woman who is about to marry the man they both love. You will assume you know the anatomy of this tangled love triangle. Assume nothing. Twisted and deliciously chilling, Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen's *The Wife Between Us* exposes the secret complexities of an enviable marriage - and the dangerous truths we ignore in the name of love. *Read between the lies.* **Please RSVP in advance and revise if unable to attend. There is a limit of 12 as well as a waiting list that fills in when RSVP’s are canceled.** We’ll already have a table inside, please ask the restaurant host where we are seated. Looking forward to seeing you! Fundraising is now turned on for events and is voluntary. I am a working college student that organizes the group. Meetup charges $45 monthly and donations are greatly appreciated. Thank you.
