What we’re about
This is a hiking group based mainly around the Wicklow and Dublin mountains. We will also do hikes in other parts of Ireland and some trips abroad.
The hikes will be reasonably fast paced and if doing these hikes you are expected to have a good level of fitness and some hiking experience. Some hikes will be more suited to beginners, so please read the hike descriptions for details. We welcome adults of all ages.
Unfortunately, as we often hike across private land, we cannot accommodate dogs on any hikes.
Hikes will vary in distance and ascent, so take note of the hike distance, ascent and description before signing up. If you are unsure if you have the required level of fitness try one one of the shorter hikes for starters.
All hikes are free of charge.
Everyone is responsible for their own safety during the hikes.
Everyone is expected to have appropriate hiking gear, boots/trail shoes, warm clothes, waterproof jacket and trousers. No jeans. Head torches are recommended during the darker months. Also bring sufficient food and water for the hike duration.
Signing up for hikes and not turning up without changing your RSVP to No may result in you being removed from the group.
Having fun and a laugh along the way is not mandatory but is actively encouraged :)

See all- Sunrise Hike for Darkness into Light: 18km Bray Head to Little SugarloafCliff Walk Car Park, Bray, Bray
Join me for a special early morning hike to mark Pieta’s Darkness into Light on Saturday May 10th.
This is a fundraising event in solidarity with the darkness into light walks across the country, and if you’d like to contribute, donations can be made directly to Pieta through this link: https://www.darknessintolight.ie/fundraisers/sunrisehiketrailblazers/fundraiser
All proceeds support Pieta’s free, nationwide services for people in suicidal crisis, those who self-harm, and those bereaved by suicide.
We'll cover Bray Head, Bray Head Hill, and then Little Sugarloaf - with two route options: keep it short with 8km and head back yourself (will provide GPX of the short route) or join me for the full 18km. Short route about 300m elevation; long route just over 700m so very easy for this group.
Terrain includes large and medium trail paths, small off-trail paths through gorse, some field areas, woodland path, rocks that require some scrambling, rocky areas, loose scree,... and a teeny bit of road but routes keep that to the minimum.
We'll set off at 4:30am, aiming to reach the top of Bray Head Hill with a stunning sunrise view over the sea for 5:10-5:30am. We'll have a cuppa and watch the sunrise and then head on to the rest of the route with a very short snack break or two along the way.
This is not an official Trailblazers or expert-led hike – just a group of us coming together to do something meaningful in solidarity with those impacted by suicide and self-harm.
Bring:
- headlight/torch required
- wear long-pants not shorts unless you want bloody knees from the small paths through with slightly overgrown gorse
- water
- whatever weather-related gear is necessary on the day
- trail runners or hiking boots
- flask of a hot drink of your choice + snacks for the sunrise if you want
- map/online/watch version of the route (I'll share beforehand)Meeting at Cliff Walk Car Park at 4:15am to set off by 4:30am; should take about 6 hours in total with the sunrise break for a cuppa: https://maps.app.goo.gl/p3ttqCuqy4ko7fF78
Loads more parking in the area to go around so shouldn't be an issue.
Let’s walk together from darkness into light 💛
