This hike races the route of the Chess Valley Walk, set within the Chiltern Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The walk links Rickmansworth and Chesham, winding through the scenic Chess Valley alongside the meandering River Chess. Along the way, it passes through picturesque open fields and woodlands, with highlights including the historic De Vere Latimer House and village—namesake of Chalfont & Latimer station. A charming stretch along a permissive path high above the valley offers sweeping views, culminating in a dramatic final descent into the heart of Chesham, perfect for ending the journey with drinks/tea in town.
Meeting Point & Time: Rickmansworth Train Station at 10:30
Train: Rickmansworth and Chesham both are london zone 7 & 9 , you can use Oyster and contactless card(remember to touch in and out)
You can reach Rickmansworth by the Metropolitan Line of the Underground direct from Aldgate, Kings Cross and Baker Street journey time 45 minutes from Baker Street. Get a train that arrives at Rickmansworth station at 10.30 am.
Hike Starts: Rickmansworth Train Station at 10:30 am
Hike Finishes: Chesham at Approx. 16:00
Length: 18 Kms, Hiking time: Approx. 5.5 hours. Grade: Easy/Intermediate, Ascent: 320 m
