Join us as we hike through the forests of Leith Hill. Marking the highest point in Surrey, the tower at the hill's summit provides views on a clear day of no less than thirteen counties.

As should be expected of such a notable location, it has played a leading role in England's history. There are no less than three iron age forts in the vicinity, and in the early Anglo-Saxon era the hill was the site of a great battle that preserved the country's independence from the Vikings.

In later centuries though, it was the area's beauty that attracted people, most notable of whom were the Wedgwood pottery family, and their close relation the composer Ralph Vaughan Williams. He was famous for collecting folk songs on his travels through the countryside.

Our day will see us exploring the forests for both their history and scenery.
