The Giant Stairs Palisades hike is a 4-mile loop with about 800’ of elevation up and down. It's a difficult hike with large boulder scrambling and steep inclines and declines, but we will take it at a leisurely pace.

This hike explores the northern end of the New Jersey Section of the Palisades Interstate Park. It’s perhaps the most rewarding loop-hike in the park, as it includes several scenic features such as the Peanut Leap Cascade ruins and waterfall, Eastern Witness Monument, and panoramic north-facing views over the Hudson River with the Tappan Zee Bridge visible in the distance.

This fun and unique hike features the largest rock scramble you can hike in New Jersey – the Giant Stairs! We’ll scramble over this long section of huge boulders that tumbled from the Palisades Cliffs when a large section of the cliff face broke off and tumbled down to the river during a massive rockslide in May, 2012.

Navigating the Giant Stairs in an area this rich in history and stunning views makes for a fun and challenging morning!
