You need to hike off the beaten path to find the hidden gems that only a few get to secretly enjoy. Think stunning views, waterfalls, hidden campsites, plane wrecks, and no crowds. If you’re confident with map & compass, we’ll provide an experience to prepare you to plan your own unique adventures.

Look at any large state park, or any park for that matter, and notice that the trails cover a minuscule percentage of the entire parklands. That means even after hiking every trail we still have almost all of the park left to explore and we can only imagine what may lay beyond the trails and the people! In this course, we take it slow on easy terrain as we build ourselves up to hiking off-trail. The goal is to increase comfort, knowledge, skills, experience, and confidence before taking on more ambitious itineraries. Key learning points include trip planning, navigating around large terrain features, using natural features for navigation, and more. Heading off-trail won’t seem so difficult or daunting after this fun day in the woods with others just like you.

Prerequisite: Map & Compass Navigation 1 or equivalent knowledge

Minimum Age: 12 years old - the minor(s) and a parent/guardian must all be paid registered participants.
