A women-only guided backpacking trip led by experienced female TrailBound Project instructors and guides. It's an opportunity for women to connect with other women who share a love for the outdoors, want to forge friendships for future adventures, and be a part of the women's outdoor community. It also allows a safe environment to focus on female-centric topics that matter to them.
This easy-level backpacking trip is a perfect first-ever trip, or if you haven't been backpacking in many years, to take it easy, try out gear, and refresh on skills.
It will be an easy 1-night backpacking trip with a round-trip total of about 5 miles and 850' of elevation change.
We start out strong, hiking up 400' in our first mile through a steep section affectionately called Almost Perpendicular to a stunning view. After enjoying the view for a bit, we continue on to Elbow Brush, a short, fun, tight squeeze through a rock crevice, which you can try to get through or walk around to bypass. Our route continues to Claudius Smith Den, a large rock outcropping where the outlaw Claudius Smith and his gang hid out, and which has a beautiful view from the top. After taking it all in, we continue to our camping area near the Dutch Doctor Shelter, where we'll be learning, connecting, and enjoying ourselves. The next morning we have a short, leisurely, downhill hike back to the vehicles.
Don't have gear yet? You can use OUR gear. If needed, you can rent a backpack, tent, and/or sleeping pad for $5 each. The guides will have all the other important gear like first aid kits, fire kits, water filters, and stoves/cooking gear. All you need is a sleeping bag or blanket if it's warm out, a small pillow, a headlamp, 4 liters of water in bottles and/or a hydration bladder, food & snacks, eating utensils, personal toiletries, clothing for the weather, and hiking boots. A detailed packing list will be emailed to students after registration, and you can contact us with any questions.
So join us for what will be an incredible learning and bonding women-only experience!
Be sure to add a rental backpack, tent, and/or sleeping pad to your cart before checkout if needed.
