This event has 50 slots available! You won't see the attendees here on meetup as registrations are on our site but we wanted to let you know that we typically see large outings for all of our events!

This is a very rare opportunity to view the Perseids. This year's peak coincides with ideal conditions for viewing, as the new moon, which falls on August 12, ensures the sky will be at its darkest, maximizing visibility. We can expect to see up to 100+ meteors per hour, including bright fireballs, with the best views in the hours before dawn.

Not every TrailBound experience is measured in elevation gain or difficulty; this trip offers you the chance to relax and take in a full experience!

Each August, the Perseid meteor shower offers one of the most reliable and visible night-sky events of the year. This overnight car-camping trip is designed to step away from light pollution, slow down, and experience it together.

We’ll establish camp at Ole Bull State Park, where we can arrive any time after 3pm, and settle in for peak viewing hours under the dark Pennsylvania skies. We can view the sky from our camp or zip over to the nearby Cherry Springs State Park, which is an official dark sky park with no campfires and only red headlamps allowed.

We will have a professional astronomer narrate the evening, and although not needed to view the Milky Way or the shooting stars, they will bring a telescope for viewing as well.

Throughout the trip, we will:
• Review simple, efficient car-camp setup
• Discuss night-sky orientation and meteor timing
• Identify constellations and viewing strategies
• Create a calm, low-light environment for optimal visibility

This is not a backpacking trip. There are no heavy packs, no summit objectives, and no mileage goals.

Bring a chair. Bring warm layers. Bring patience. We’ll share conversation around camp, step away from artificial light, and look up.

A quieter kind of outdoor experience that will leave lasting memories.

NOTE: This trip is limited to 48 participants and will most likely sell out fast. We will inevitably have cancellations by event-goers for various reasons, so if you do not get in at first, add your name to the waitlist and save the date anyway!

NOTE: Although the heavenly bodies have set up this event for an incredible viewing experience, there is always a possibility of getting inclement weather and cloud cover. Due to non-refundable fixed expenses we've incurred , this event will be an exception to the registration and refund policy, in that any cancellations on or after 7/12/2026 will receive a 65% refund in the form of a TrailBound Project eGift card.
