On this adventure we'll enjoy the best of South Dakota, with two nights camping in Custer State Park, hikes including a 7-mile loop up the state's highest peak, and lake circumnavigations, topped by a stay in a rustic , 5-brdrm, two-bathrm, cabin. Campfires on the camp nights.
ITINERARY
THUR Oct 5 - Drive 6-7 hours to Custer State Park in SW South Dakota, and camp.
FRI OCT 6 - Hike the 7-mile, 1K gain, loop- climb to Black Elk Peak, and return to camp.
SAT OCT 7 - Lake boating? Hike? Then retire to the Centennial Cabin and a sumptuous take-out dinner.
SUN OCT 8 - Breakfast in down, and then drive home.
Warning: Winter comes early to South. Dakota. Be prepared!
Costs: Your share of $650 cabin rental, plus gas if you're a passenger.
Limit: 8 (first 5 get beds, next two get sleeper sofas, last will BYO air mattress).
