Abyss Trail to Helms Lake - Fall Color hike

Fall colors on the Abyss Trail to Helms Lake have been hit or miss over the past several years, so let's try our luck this week. It could be our day!
This popular trail winds through beautiful aspen groves tucked into a mountain valley, so expect parking to be a challenge. Be prepared for a creek crossing and steep switchbacks near the end before reaching the lake. Since this is mainly a fall color hike, we'll stay flexible on distance and may turn around early if the group prefers to linger in the aspens.

Elevation gain: 2,417 ft
Duration: 6 - 7hrs approx.
Rating: Hard
No dogs please.
Let's start earlier to avoid parking issue:
We could take I70 and Guanella Pass and then return via 285 - beautiful drive
