We will meet at the mouth of the Deschutes River Friday morning, east bank at far end of campground. cost to park is $5 per day paid in Kiosk with credit card or cash envelope. . if you are not able to make it Friday morning meet us at 4 mile camp Sat. morning by rest rooms. Friday we will meet and hike up river on east bank 4 miles. There is a nice bathroom there and a great area to camp. Sat. we will hike up river 2 to 4 miles . Hiking is on old railroad grade. Very gradual elevation gain. There is also a nice walk to top of Ridge we can do Friday if or Saturday. Flowers may be out. We usually see mountain sheep, deer, raccoon, beaver, otter, etc.
Bring Uhr sack or be prepared to at least rodent hang food. If you come Friday you will need 2 breakfasts, 3 lunches and 2 dinners per person.
Equipment: 2 to 3 season tent. I use SOS ground cloth under tent and sometimes in tent also for added insulation. Also needed is a Therma Rest Z pad for insulation. I like to put lite weight air pad on this combination of padding. Warm sleeping bag, Down is good. if you sleep cold a sleeping bag liner. if your tent is not 3 season you can improve warmth by adding a lite weight silnylon tarp over tent .
clothes: Designated sleeping clothes; set of long Johns, down pants and coat, wool socks. stocking hat to sleeping.
extra clothes, one extra shirt, I take fleece for over shirt if cold, 2 extra pairs of socks, 2 extra pairs underwear. Hat, and gloves. Raingear.
You will need stove, fuel, pot for cooking(titanium), utensils. I carry sponge cut small and small bottle of biodegradable soap.
You will need water filter . There is a small creek in camp or we can take water from river . Bring first aid kit with flashlight. Bring rope for hanging food.
what to wear: Supportive boots with traction, one to 2 pairs of socks, gators, hiking pants or skirt and tights. I like to wear a wool tank top, wool or button up long sleeve shirt, pull over warm shirt or vest and wind breaker or lite weight rain coat. Sun Hat, sun glasses.
