What we’re about
Do you study subway maps for fun? Ever taken a bus when a car would be easier? Dreamed of ringing the bell on a cable car? Then have we got a group for you! Join with other transit enthusiasts to talk about, read about and travel on public transportation in the Washington area (and perhaps beyond)! We'll gather for presentations and debates (did the auto industry really sabotage trollies?) and go on field trips around the city on the Metro, Metrobus, regional carriers--even the largely useless but still lovely H Street streetcar. If the trip (on public transit) is often more important than the destination, you've found your group!

See all- Wheel-Free Transit: Taking the Water Bus!Potomac Riverboat Company: Alexandria and DC Boat Tours / Water Taxi, Alexandria, VA
Sometimes the most direct route between two points in the Washington area is over the water of the Potomac--and that's exactly the route travelled by the Potomac Water Taxi (mislabeled bus)! Come join us for a sunny, breezy trackless transit trip from Alexandria to the Wharf in Southwest D.C. It's the perfect cap to our third transit enthusiast season!
We will meet at the foot of Cameron Street, behind the Torpedo Factory, at 11:30. The half-hour cruise up the Potomac towards the capital starts at noon. We'll dock at the vibrant Wharf and have lunch at an Italian sandwich shop in the Wharf complex called Grazie Grazie for hoagies and discussion of our watery adventure. A way home is offered by the nearby Waterfront station on the Metro Green line.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Unlike almost all our other transit adventures, this one cannot be accessed with a Metro SmartCard. You must buy a ticket from Potomac Cruises. So visit this website and reserve your one-way ticket today!
