First it was nickels, then tokens, then paper farecards, then plastic smartcards--and now they want to take those away from us too!
Not so fast, says TEDC member Katy Kelly! She will make a presentation on the history of the WMATA SmarTrip card; show commemorative versions from DC and other cities; and explain how even as the fare payment system transfers entirely onto phones, it is possible to keep the fun commemorative feature.
We'll also outline the final transit outing of the season: a water taxi (bus) from Alexandria to the DC Wharf.
