Washington’s Metrorail consists of six lines running on three sets of tracks.
In the city’s core, it’s possible to ride all six lines over short distances and in equally short periods of time. But just how fast can it be done? We’ll set out to discover how quickly a Metro passenger can meet the Six-Line Challenge!

We'll gather at the L'Enfant Plaza station, the system's busiest, at the end of the upper level transept, under the image of the "waving astronaut". Then we'll commence our first run on the Blue, Orange or Silver line, heading west toward Virginia. After riding all six lines in the most efficient manner, we'll wind up at Gallery Place. We'll compare times and notes--then try it again! After three tries--we hope each faster than the last--we'll emerge from the system for lunch at a nearby Potbelly sandwich shop.
