Buses By The Numbers (3rd Time's the Charm!)
Details
Metrobuses with pure number designations—as opposed to alpha-numeric signifiers—are descendants of streetcars that used to ply roughly the same routes. So that means some of these transit routes are 90 years old! The numbered routes start with the 30s buses, then increase in value to the 90s as you generally move east across the map of D.C. (The 10 and 20 routes didn't make the transition to trackless transit.)
This adventure involves riding all seven numbered routes—30s through 90s —in sequence, in a reasonably efficient manner. The trip will begin at the Foggy Bottom Metro station and conclude at Union Station. Almost all the lines intersect--there's only one instance where we'll have to walk a short distance to reach the next line. We'll have a late lunch and compare notes in Union Station's food court.
It will be fun to see if Metro views this as one continuous ride, with an initial boarding and then six consecutive transfers! Hope you all can make it!
