Bike Hack Night VI

Details

Bike Hack Night is a show & tell of bicycle-related apps, data visualizations, and gadgets. We are thrilled to be co-sponsored by REI (https://www.rei.com/), which has invited us to the REI Community Space at Wunder Garten (http://wundergartendc.com/rei/) as part of the #unitedoutside (http://unitedoutside.com/) celebration. And thanks to co-sponsor Mobility Lab (http://mobilitylab.org/) for making this event possible. REI will be providing s'mores, and beer will be available for purchase. At this point we are not expecting a food truck on premises, but you are welcome to bring your own food.

Doors open at 6:00. Speakers begin at 6:30. Because we're expecting a large crowd, consider bringing a laptop or tablet to follow along with the presentations. We'll link to them from http://bit.ly/bike6 . We have seven presentations:

• Ryan Abrahamsen will show how Terrain360 (http://terrain360.com/) maps bike trails to panoramic images.

• Eric Brelsford (http://ebrelsford.github.io/) will show you how to get your city's bike lanes into OpenStreetMap (https://www.openstreetmap.org/) and talk about why you would want to.

• James Graham will present DDOT (http://ddot.dc.gov/)'s new GIS street data, and bicycling Level of Traffic Stress analysis.

• Kate Rabinowitz (https://twitter.com/DataLensDC) will dig into Bike to Work Day 2016, By the Numbers (https://www.washingtonian.com/2016/05/24/bike-to-work-day-2016-by-the-numbers/).

• Alexandra Ulsh (http://www.alexandraulsh.com/), Nelle Pierson, and Chris Slatt (http://alongthepike.com/) will show how DCFemTech (https://dcfemtech.github.io/) and Code for DC (http://codefordc.org/) built a map (https://dcfemtech.github.io/hackforgood-waba-map/) for WABA (http://www.waba.org/) showing proximity to bike infrastructure.

• Justin Molineaux of Baas Bikes (http://baasbikes.com/) will show how smartphones can create low-cost, data-rich bikeshare systems.

• Tom Lee (https://twitter.com/tjl) will show how he collected bike safety data using ultrasonic sensors, ESP8266 wifi microcontrollers and smartphones.

Thanks to Wunder Garten (http://wundergartendc.com/) and Google for our speaker swag.
