Dockerizing Java applications may seem simple, but it meets several challenges related to configuration management, service discovery, licensing, dependency management and scaling. During this presentation, Andrey will walk us through some practical aspects of running Java inside containers like:

• choosing a base image

• planning a Docker image hierarchy

• creating Docker containers for Tomcat, Spring Boot or WebLogic

• fat JAR vs. thin JAR

• multi-container setups

• service discovery

Andrey is working as a freelance DevOps consultant offering his expertise in implementing DevOps initiatives, selecting automation tooling, switching to infrastructure-as-code and immutable infrastructure and constructing software delivery pipelines.

Another Andrey's passion is teaching software automation practices and tooling. His DevOps MasterClass (eXtreme Automation) course has been delivered more than 20 times in various locations in Europe: Austria, Sweden, Denmark, UK, Romania, Estonia, Latvia.
