Join filmmaker and traveler Stephanie Gardner as she shares her adventure stories with historical context through the independent island-nation of Palau, in the Western Pacific. Stephanie spent a month exploring Palau while on break between filming her latest "Cinema Nomad " episodes. What she discovered is a small island-chain with a friendly population and a fascinating history that includes indigenous Belauan cultures; to German-then-Spanish-then-Japanese-then American occupations, and road to its own independence as an island at the center of ecologically-minded advocacy.

Palau has some of the best preserved coral reefs left on the planet and a rich marine life. In addition to a brief culture and history overview, Stephanie will focus some of her presentation on The Battle of Peleliu, one of the bloodiest and longest battles of WWII 's Pacific Theatre, which took place on one of 9 inhabited islands of Palau, Peleliu, an island that has a population of around 600 people, on land that is around 6 square miles.
