Tromso has been rated as the 3rd “Best Destinations in the World for Experiences” by TripAdvisor!

Tromsø (The gateway to the Arctic ) lies in Northern Norway. ... It is the largest urban area in Northern Norway and the third largest north of the Arctic Circle anywhere in the world. Most of Tromsø, including the city centre, is located on the island of Tromsøya, 217 miles north of the Arctic Circle. I

Day 1
After arriving in Tromso in the evening we will take our private transfer to the hotel and then go out to eat at a local restaurant.

Our hotel, the Quality Hotel Saga is rated as "fabulous" on trip advisor. The Tromsø Polar Museum is 550 yards away. The Polaria Aquarium is a 10-minute walk from the hotel.

Breakfast is included each morning and free coffee, tea and waffles are available in the afternoon. We will be sharing twin rooms with en-suite bathrooms. The rooms have tea and coffee making facilities and free wifi.

Day 2

This morning we embark on a walking tour with our guide, we cover the area of Tromsø within the original borders of 1794, from Strandtorget in the south, to Skansen in the north.

In addition to a wealth of historical sites, we will also encounter statues, busts and murals, telling stories of people who crafted their destiny in the Arctic. Tromsø has been significant for the biographies of world-famous characters such as Roald Amundsen, as well as local heroes such as Wanny Woldstad and Henry Rudi.

A visit to the Polar museum is included in the tour, and we will finish at one of the oldest and most authentic bars in town, which reflects the maritime heritage of the city. We might even see a polar bear, or two. But don’t worry, they won’t be hungry – in fact, they are quite stuffed.

The Polar Museum
Tromsø has been the North Norwegian capital of sealing. Following its establishment as the “Gateway to the Arctic” in the late 19th century, Tromsø became a key as a base for many polar expeditions. The Polar Museum preserves and conveys stories related to this aspect of the history of Tromsø and the Arctic. The Polar Museum’s permanent exhibitions deal with sealing, overwintering trapping, the stories of famous trappers such as Henry Rudi and Wanny Wolstad, the expeditions of Fridtjof Nansen and Roald Amundsen and the cultural history of Svalbard.

The Travel Buddies trips work on the basis that as long as you are having a good time then that is what matters, if you don't feel like coming on one of the excursions or joining the rest of the group for dinner one evening then that is absolutely fine.

We then have the afternoon for further sightseeing before leaving the hotel in the evening for our North Lights Tour.

What to do and see.....

The Arctic University Museum of Norway.
number of exhibitions that give you insight into Northern Norwegian culture and nature. Entrance fee is around £5. It is a 30 minute walk from the hotel.

Take the cable car up to the top of Floya mountain.
The cable car “Fjellheisen” is a true icon in Tromso, dating back to 1961, and loved by both the locals and tourists. From the top, you get an amazing view of Tromso city and it`s beautiful surroundings of mountains and fjords. In the background, you can see Kvaloya, one of Norway’s largest islands. To oget to the cable car on foot takes around 30 minutes and is a beautiful easy walk where we will pass the famous Arctic Cathedral.

The Arctic Cathedral
The Cathedral has the shape of an iceberg and at the front there is a stunning glass mosaic that sparkles with incredible colours when the sun shines through it. It is the " image of Tromso".

The main pedestrian street in Tromso is called Storgata, and here there are plenty of nice shops, cafes, and restaurants. Storgata is most lively on Saturdays and is well worth a stroll.

Day 3

Today we have the option to go on a reindeer sledding ride, Feed wild Reindeer, test our lasso throwing skills (but not on real reindeer) and learn all about the Sami Tribe around the fire inside a warm candle lit gamme (Traditional Sami Hut).

Around 2,600 Sami people in Norway make their living from herding reindeer, and the majority of the region of Northern Norway is actually used for raising reindeer. Traditionally, most Sami people have supported themselves through fishing, livestock farming and hunting, along the coast, on the fjords and alongside the large rivers farther inland.

A lunch of bidos (a traditional Sami soup) with hot drinks and cookies (vegetarian option possible) is included whilst we listen to tales of Sami culture and enjoy a folk song preformance.

The sledding ride lasts around 15 minutes.

We will return to Tromso by bus at around 2pm.

The cost of this excursion is not included. it is £110 and needs to be paid at the same time as the balance if you wish to do it.

There are also alternative excursions that can be booked whilst we are there such as Arctic boat trips and husky sledding! What a fantastic opportunity to do something really special.

This afternoon we are going to the Polaria Arctic Aquarium (Entrance Included)
One of two places in Europe where you can see the bearded seal at close range. Look, feel, experience and understand why life in the sea and life on land depends entirely on each other. There is also a panoramic cinema with two amazing films from North Norway and Svalbard that suck you into the landscape, the life and the Northern Lights – thanks to five projectors and a 21-metre-wide and 3-metre-high canvas.
