Casco Bay Ferry to Peaks Island and Picnic Lunch

Summer Time! Let's hope the rainy weekends are over and go on a trip over to Peaks Island on the Casco Bay Ferry out of Portland.

• Note: It is Sunday so parking will be free on the street but it will be difficult to find parking so please leave time for that. It is recommended that you arrive 30 min ahead of time for our departure of 11:15 from Portland. If you have to get back at a certain time please check the ferry schedule for rides back. Also there is a steep hill once we get off of the Ferry to walk up so please consider that.

After you arrive at Peaks Island, you adventure begins at Forest City Landing where Casco Bay Lines ferries have docked since the 1880’s.

• Get your bearings straight by hopping on a golf cart with Island Tours, the preferred means of island transportation.
• Refresh yourself with lunch and ocean views at the Island Lobster Company, Cockeyed Gull or the Inn on Peaks.
• Spend the rest of your afternoon exploring on foot or kayak or with a bike from Brad and Wyatt’s Bike Shop. Enjoy the breathtaking views from Backshore or from atop Battery Steele.
• Visit the Fifth Maine Museum for a glimpse into the island’s past and to see the newly restored battle flag of the Fifth Maine Regiment of the Civil War.
• Finish your day with a stroll along Island Avenue, where you’ll find Take a Peak, the Gem Gallery and the world’s only Umbrella Cover Museum.
• Of course, no island visit would be complete without an ice cream from Down Front.
• The summer rate is $14 but there is information about discounts for some on the web site.
• Casco Bay "All tickets can be purchased at our terminal on the Maine State Pier. All tickets are round trip and are collected in Portland at boarding. Round trip passage is defined as transportation to an island with return on a different boat. Round trip tickets expire 60 days after issue.
