• What we'll do
We will pool our collective knowledge and try to make an initial map of the trees in a target area (which the event leader will select). An expert will stop by as soon as they can to evaluate our work and feedback will be sent to participants or posted on the site -- including information on the main trees we could not identify. We may devise a tagging scheme so it will be easy to return to these tree later or so new participants could swing by and check them out. There is one main area to look at and two others nearby if there's time / desire. These are within 1 mile. (There is a house to warm up in and to take a tea or coffee, though that's optional.) I'm 99% sure that I can identify at least half of the trees in the stand. This includes yellow birch, basswood, cottonwood, hawthorn, box elder, hemlock, cherry, cedar, and others. I can identify maple as well but the varieties (red and sugar) elude me still.
