Original Santee Canal Kayaking

Details
In the 1800s, the original Santee Canal provided a safe and shortened route from Columbia to Charleston. It was 22 miles long with 10 locks extending from the Santee River to just east of Moncks Corner on the Cooper River. We'll kayak a smaller section of the original Santee Canal on Lake Moultrie. The canal was abandoned in the 1860's; today we are left with a unique place to explore lined with moss-draped cypress trees and abundant wildlife. Also lots of flowers on the paddle to the canal and back including a few lotus blooms. Osprey and Bald Eagles nest in the area. Expect to see Anhinga, herons and other wading birds, turtles and probably a gator.
This is NOT the park in Moncks Corner but on Lake Moultrie in Pineville SC.
