Summary: PIG was developed at Yahoo! to make it easier for people to analyze data without having to write map reduce programs in java. This session will cover the basics of PIG Latin and when to use PIG instead of HIVE. We will also cover the dataflow capabilities of PIG and how not having an optimizer allows the analyst to squeeze every bit of performance out of a Hadoop cluster.

Speaker: Kevin Goode is the Enterprise Data Architect at Inmar. He has 18 years of IT experience; 15 years of which has been SQL Server focused starting with version 6.5 and the past 2 years have been focused on Big Data, Hadoop and NoSQL. He has worked in many industries including manufacturing, distribution and logistics, financial services, IT outsourcing and has worked for several fortune 500 companies.
