Details

Hey Kubernetes and OpenShift Enthusiasts!

July Kubernetes and OpenShift Meetup #36

6:00-6:30: Gather, network, beer, pizza, swag

6:30-7:00 Log aggregation for Kubernetes using Elasticsearch -- Jonanthan Mainguy, Systems Engineer for Bandwidth

Elasticsearch provides a log aggregation, transformation, and an easy to use web ui to view logs. The systems team deployed this to all our servers and Kubernetes clusters to aggregate logging all in one easy to view place. I will explain the different parts of the Elasticsearch stack and the functions they provide, how we utilize them, and how we deployed them to our Kubernetes clusters.

7:15-7:45 Using a Graph Database to Understand Complex Infrastructure -- Phil Gates-Idem, Team Lead / Architect for JupiterOne

Phil will discuss the benefits of using a graph database to store information about complex infrastructure. A demo of the OpenShift integration in JupiterOne will be shown but other ideas will be presented. He will also discuss the pros and cons of using graph database and other data stores. While graph databases are very powerful, we will also share why we decided to introduce other types of databases to improve query performance.

Speaker Bio:

Phil Gates-Idem is the Team Lead / Architect for JupiterOne which is a SaaS security product which began development in early 2018. JupiterOne uses a graph database to track resources and their relationships across your entire cloud footprint and offers a data-driven approach to answering security and compliance questions. Before working on JupiterOne, Phil joined LifeOmic which built a cloud healthcare platform and the popular intermittent fasting mobile app named “LIFE Fasting Tracker”. JupiterOne and LifeOmic were both started and funded by Don Brown who is a serial entrepreneur.
