Monthly Meetup: HotDraw Principles Revisited
Hosted by Triangle Node.js
Details
Hi Triangle Node! This month we'll have Ken Auer talking about where object oriented JavaScript still has a place. I know, I know, we're all supposed to be aboard the functional hype train but avoiding OO concepts in a language like JavaScript leaves some of the best parts behind.
As usual we'll be at the Microsoft Office in Morrisville (4th floor). Doors open at 6pm and the meetup will start around 6:20. Afterward we'll head out for food and drinks at a local restaurant.

Title:
HotDraw Principles Revisited: Object-Oriented JavaScript for Spatial Manipulation
Description:
Many domains have significant geometric and spatial components that are best described visually.
In the late 80s, Kent Beck and Ward Cunningham came up with HotDraw (http://c2.com/cgi/wiki?HotDraw), a two-dimensional graphics framework for structured drawing editors, originally written in Smalltalk-80. While much has been learned since then, its simple, yet powerful principles are timeless. Over the past few years, we’ve leveraged these timeless principles building a variety of efficient configure-price-quote applications with 2D and 3D manipulation and visualization.
We'll go over the highlights of the cool technical feats and show how JavaScript is not just a functional language for manipulating the DOM.
