Brumley Forest North: walk, read, and connect

Details
Join us for a Sunday afternoon walk at the north section of the Brumley Forest Nature Preserve, an old dairy farm off Old NC 10 between Durham and Hillsborough. We'll walk about 3 miles, through woods, along fields, a creek, several ponds, an old cemetery, and even a labyrinth. We'll be mostly following the route shown here: https://www.alltrails.com/trail/us/north-carolina/brumley-forest-nature-preserve-north The trail may be muddy, so hiking boots are recommended. Brumley North is a great area for birding, so if you have binoculars bring them!
We'll stop at one of the ponds for about 30 minutes to read, talk, meditate, write, draw, birdwatch, or whatever you want to do.
We'll meet at 4:00pm on Sunday, June 15, in the parking lot of the North Section of Brumley Forest Nature Preserve: 3620 Old State Hwy 10, Chapel Hill, NC 27514 https://maps.app.goo.gl/684avoXMP95n6UDf6 Note that there are two distinct sections to the Brumley Forest Nature Preserve, and three different parking lots - we're meeting at the parking lot for the north section, at the address shown above.
We'll get started a few minutes after 4:00 and will aim to be back at the parking lot around 6pm.
We’ll still plan to walk if it’s drizzling or raining lightly. But if there’s heavy rain or other extreme weather in the forecast, we’ll reschedule and send a notice by the morning of the event to people who have registered.
We hope to see some of the "regulars" there, and to meet new folks! This group is a great way to meet people who both enjoy walking in nature and reading and talking about books and ideas.
A couple of other notes:
- If you sign up and later realize you can no longer come, please change your RSVP to indicate that, so it will open up your space for someone on the waitlist. If you're on the waitlist, check Meetup and your notifications up to the day before the event, because often people drop out late and spaces open up at the last minute.
- Participation in this hike and any of the events organized by this group are at your own risk. These hikes are on public and well-used trails, but there may be dangers like tripping over tree roots, snake or insect bites, poison ivy, or other unpredictable risks. By joining this event you agree not to hold the organizers responsible for any injuries, and that you understand that you participate at your own risk.
See you soon!
