We follow an out-and-back route along Company Mill Trail for a ‘mostly silent’ hike with some meditation sprinkled in.

Meditations will be guided when we stop to practice. Otherwise, we maintain silence in order to better appreciate the immersive sensory and conscious experience of walking through the trees. A true ‘mindful hike.’

At four predetermined spots along the route, we step off the beaten path and break silence to practice techniques specifically chosen to help us:

  • down-regulate the nervous system,
  • calm and quiet mental chatter, and
  • cultivate present-moment awareness.

You are more than welcome to bring/carry your own small camp stool if you’d prefer not to sit on ground, stump, or stone during practice.

We step off promptly at 8:30am. The practice at the turnaround lasts about 26 minutes 😎. We should back at the trailhead around 11am.

Total time: 2.5 hours (ish).

Keep in mind:

  1. Safety is paramount. Kit up appropriately, honor your limitations, leave ego at the trailhead.
  2. ‘Hydrate or die.’ Bring your own water source.
  3. ‘Chow is continuous.’ It’s ok to bring pocket-sized snacks.
  4. There are no restrooms on the trail.
  5. Leave no trace. In other words, pack out your trash. If you see trash out on the trail, be a hero and pick it up to dispose of at the trailhead.
