Based on the book of the same name, Margaret Simon is 11 years old when her family moves from New York City to the New Jersey suburbs. Although her mother is Christian and her father is Jewish, Margaret has been raised without any affiliation with organized religion. Still, she frequently prays and begins by saying, "Are you there God? It's me, Margaret." For a school assignment, she chooses to study people's religious beliefs, hoping to resolve the question of her own religion in the process. This is a relatable story with funny details and candid exploration into life's biggest questions. The movie stars Rachel McAdams, Kathy Bates and Abby Ryder Fortson as Margaret.
