What we’re about
Welcome to The Stoic Circle of Friends! We are a community of individuals who are interested in exploring and applying the teachings of Stoicism in our daily lives.
Our Aim:
To build a community of like-minded individuals, perhaps beginners, who apply Stoic philosophy as a practical tool for modern living—just as the Greeks and Romans did around 300 BC. We are aiming to reach inner peace, wisdom, and resilience.
What Sets Us Apart:
While many Stoic groups exist, ours focuses on consistent, action-oriented connection. We meet regularly not to debate theory, but to integrate wisdom into daily life through talks, hikes, bike rides, and local travel. No degrees in philosophy required—just a willingness to grow.
Starting Point:
We’ll explore two foundational books together:
Stoicism: Tools for Emotional Resilience and Positivity by Matthew J. Van Natta
A Guide to the Good Life by William B. Irvine
Location:
Troy or Royal Oak (specific venues TBD).
Meetings Etiquette; Equal Air, Equal Care
This keeps the focus on collective growth over individual monologues.
If one individual spoken twice, invite a silent voice to share.
