On 27th January 2013, Patrick Lee Mullins, a librarian at Palmetto High School, went missing after taking his boat out on the Braden River.

Just one day after his disappearance, the empty little boat was discovered adrift in the Egmont Channel far from the Mullins' home. Eight days later Pat's body was located near where the Manatee River and Tampa Bay merge. According to the medical examiner's report, he died from a shotgun wound to the side of his head.
