In 2008, two-year-old Caylee Anthony was reported missing in Orlando, Florida, after a 31-day delay by her mother, Casey Anthony. Months later, Caylee's skeletal remains were discovered near the Anthony family home.
Casey was charged with first-degree murder, but during the 2011 trial, her defense claimed Caylee had accidentally drowned, and Casey panicked. Despite evidence like chloroform traces and duct tape, the jury acquitted her of murder, convicting her only for lying to police. The verdict ignited national outrage and led to the proposal of "Caylee's Law," mandating timely reporting of missing children.
The case remains one of America's most controversial.
