📸🏆🤷"Best Made-Up Category" Photo Contest Walk: Chinatown Edition
Details
Let’s wander through Ottawa’s Chinatown, take photos, and invent award categories only you can win — and that nobody could possibly dispute.
This is a relaxed small-group afternoon walk focused on:
- exploration,
- conversation,
- and noticing interesting little details you'd normally miss.
📜 The Rules
No photography experience required.
Your phone camera is completely acceptable.
Ridiculous category ideas are encouraged.
Examples include:
- "Best Pic Taken While Desperately Hoping The 4% Battery Holds"
- “Best This Pigeon Knows Something But He Ain’t Talking”
- “Best Looks Inappropriate But I Promise It Isn’t”
- “Best Chinatown Selfie: Melodramatic Much?”
- “Best Pic Taken Mere Moments Before Chaos Ensued”
You can take as many photos as you want during the walk, and afterward each person may submit up to 3 photos to this Meetup event page along with the made-up category they believe they won.
Categories are made up.
Glory is questionable.
Fun is guaranteed.
We’ll explore Chinatown at a casual pace, stopping naturally for photos, interesting storefronts, murals, architecture, snacks, bubble tea, or whatever else catches our attention along the way.
This is intentionally:
- low-pressure,
- beginner-friendly,
- socially relaxed,
- and completely fine for solo attendees.
Some people will chat a lot.
Some people will quietly take photos.
Both are absolutely welcome.
📍 Meeting Point
We’ll meet near the Chinatown Royal Gateway at the small area with red park benches. Look for the group pretending their made-up photo categories carry international prestige.
🅿️ Parking
There's a small City of Ottawa parking lot near the Chinatown Royal Gateway, but it may fill up on a Saturday. I’ll post a few parking/transit suggestions in the event discussion as we get closer to the event.
☀️ Dress for the Weather
If conditions are less-than-ideal, we’ll adapt by popping in and out of interesting places along a shortened route.
See you there!
