Middle-aged alcoholic Gin (Toru Emori), teenage runaway Miyuki (Aya Okamoto) and former drag queen Hana (Yoshiaki Umegaki) are a trio of homeless people surviving as a makeshift family on the streets of Tokyo. While rummaging in the trash for food on Christmas Eve, they stumble upon an abandoned newborn baby in a trash bin. With only a handful of clues to the baby's identity, the three misfits search the streets of Tokyo for help in returning the baby to its parents. Beautiful and substantive, Tokyo Godfathers adds a moving -- and somewhat unconventional -- entry to the animated Christmas canon.

This is the first time I've ever repeated a movie on a streaming night, but it was the first movie I hosted (I think) and after fifteen years I think it's OK to bring it back. This is a potluck, so bring something to share. We'll gather around 7, fill our plates, and then start the movie around 7:30. I'll email directions to attendees the Wednesday before - if you don't get the email by Thursday, message me through the Meetup messaging and I'll send it to you directly.

As always with these in-home events, space is limited so please treat your RSVP as a commitment. You can bring a guest, but, if you are on the waitlist, you should each RSVP individually. This is because, if one person drops out, the first singleton on the waitlist gets added, so people with guests end up getting skipped over.
