January 2nd Saturday Restoration Work Party

Details
Join the Friends of the Refuge for our January 2nd Saturday work party! We will be finishing up our pollinator hedgerow project on the Main unit of the Refuge by mulching our new pollinator plantings, ensuring that they have the very best start in life! Mulch helps young plants in many ways-it acts as an insulator, buffering the young roots from hot or cold temperatures, it retains moisture, and provides a host of helpful microorganisms that enrich the soil.
Many thanks to our partners in this project including the Xerces Society for Invertebrate Conservation for supplying these plants, as well as Lam Research and the Beaverton High School Key Club for getting them in the ground!
The species installed through this project have been selected for their value to pollinators and were grown without the use of systemic pesticides, making them pollinator safe. These plants will support the Refuge’s efforts to connect the community with wildlife conservation on our public lands and create a safe haven for some of our most hardworking wildlife!
Tools, snacks, gloves, water, training, and first aid supplies will be provided. Questions? Contact Bella Padgett [Isabella_Padgett@fws.gov](mailto:Isabella_Padgett@fws.gov)
