Many think of English composer Gustav Holst as a “one hit wonder” but he wrote a lot of other great music besides The Planets. Of course, no Holst course would be complete without an in-depth study of The Planets (that will be in Class 3), but in the two classes covering the period both before and after he wrote that work, you will enjoy music that is diverse, alluring, and extraordinary: all of it deserves to be performed and heard more often.
Join lifelong classical music enthusiast David Oesper for an in-depth chronological exploration of the life and music of Gustav Holst, Saturdays June 28 through July 26, 2025 from 1:00 - 2:30 p.m. at the Donna R. Liggins Center, 2160 N. 6th Ave. in Tucson. This five-week course is open to high school students and adults and will be taught from a listening enjoyment rather than a music theory perspective. If you are interested in attending or for more information, please contact the instructor at doesper@icloud.com. Cost will be $20, payable at the first or second class.
