Comedy (Hilarity) in Mozart’s Marriage of Figaro
Details
Mozart based the opera The Marriage of Figaro on the Beaumarchais play titled La Folle Journee, ou Le Mariage de Figaro (The Mad Day, or the Marriage of Figaro) which was a massive sensation in Europe for its bold satire of the aristocracy.
The opera is full of hilarious twists and turns. In this single session class, we will examine those twists and turns, and listen to the beautiful arias which lead to and play out the comedic intricacies.
Even if you’re not a fan of opera, you’ll appreciate the complex, ironic, and satirical comedic situations played out, and hopefully the exquisite music as well.
This is a free event, but if you wish to contribute $5 at the time of the event to help cover the $48 room rental fee that would be most appreciated.
This class will be presented by Peter Hirschman, a longtime fan of Mozart and of The Marriage of Figaro.
