Where to Meet
Find me with reflective vest on at corner of at corner of Toole and Congress street. This is at the outside corner of Hotel Congress across from the Realto Theatre

What to Bring
We will be walking and shooting at locations. Bring a wide angle lens. On a full frame sensor ideally 22mm is perfect balance of subject distortion and capturing the background neon lights. Ideally photographers travel as light as possible. I am using a 16-35mm lens on a full frame camera body. If your widest lens only equates to 30mm (on a full frame sensor) it will work for this workshop.
I am using a wagon to carry light stands, and flashes so weight is not huge issue. I am happy to share wagon for transporting bags provided there is room.

Course Description
Hands on Course. Fast Pace. We travel as a group to interesting spots shooting textured brick walls to neon signs. We will setup two flashes and shoot. Move to next shoot location. We will travel only a couple of blocks, but standing most of the time.

Students are welcome to jump in and help setup nightstand's, open softboxes, and flashes. You will get more experience jumping in. You get the feel for caring the OCF gear and positioning the light stands.
It is not required for students to get involved setup.

We will be using Manual Mode on camera. Photographers must know how to set

  1. Shutter Speed
  2. f-stop
  3. ISO

OCF Night photography is much harder then daytime OCF Photography.

TEST HIGH ISO
Test for yourself how much noise is acceptable on your camera. Proper exposure significantly reduces issues for all brands. Cameras with less Pixels (and bigger pixels) do better with high ISO usage. Learn what to expect from your camera if you need to use a high ISO (like ISO 3200) to get the shot. Learn what works for you.

TEST IMAGE STABILIZATION
Test for yourself how slow of a shutter speed you can do hand held. Some camera models are amazing how slow of a shutter speed you can use. AND, even with camera shake shown in background, the the overall images is acceptable for you.
