Lunch and Lecture Series -Building Bonds through Enrichment

Details
This will be the second installment of our Parrots who Love Us lecture series, and we’ll have a lecture by Kim Silver, a Fear-Free Animal Trainer and Karen Pryor Certified Training Partner! Kim’s business is called Building Bonds, and she works with parrots and humans to help us create and maintain good healthy relationships and lines of communication. I think of her as an inter-species relationship therapist. Even those of us not experiencing undesired behaviors can benefit from this presentation.
We will meet at Building Bonds (Indoor training space) at 1 PM, and our birds are invited! Please be aware of the need to minimize potentially negative bird/bird interactions, I would recommend being able to have your bird in a carrier or on a leash. The presentation will focus on enrichment and training for both problem prevention and as an adjunct to behavior modification for problem behaviors. Many times problems can be avoided or minimized by thoughtful enrichment and basic skills training. Part of this presentation will include making toys for our birds. Kim will also be offering specific ideas for improving our birds’ current environments if we bring photos of our bird cages/ living areas to the meetup.
Suggestions for places to meet beforehand for lunch are welcome! It will, as always, be a great time to mingle and chat about our feathered family members.
When the weather gets cooler outside I would like to continue this lecture series out on the patio at various pet-friendly restaurants (including Zinburger and Beyond Bread) so that our birds can attend in carriers or on harnesses, to provide socialization and enrichment for them as well as for ourselves!
