Books on a Theme - May's theme is Hawaiian/Polynesian Authors/Experience
Details
Book Club where we will read from a choice of books that cover a different theme each month. This month's theme is Hawaiian and Polynesian Authors/Experience. May is Asian American Native Hawaiian Pacific Islander (AANHPI) Month and historically, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander stories are under represented amongst the AANHPI group - their populations straddle both Asian (since Hawaii has a lot of mixed heritage due to Asian immigration/migrant labor) and Indigenous cultures/identities plus colonization, gentrification and tourists. Fiction & Non Fiction and Including titles/authors of Maori, Guam and Polynesian descent/diaspora.
Pick one of these books to read and discuss! If you're motivated to read more than one, go for it! If you want to read or discuss a different book not listed here on the theme, feel free to share that book with the group. I tend to pick a lot of titles that I have either read already or have heard of or obtained from reliable curated book lists. If you don't have time to read any of the books, but want to listen and/or partake in the discussion anyway, feel free!
