Wasson Peak

Details

Join me as I once again make the climb to Wasson Peak which provides an excellent view of Tucson and the Sonoran Desert.

We're going to do a loop by going up the Gould Mine Trail, Sendero Esperanza, and finally Hugh Norris to the peak. At the top we will take a break to have lunch and enjoy the view before heading back down. We'll come back on the King Canyon Trail. Total round trip distance is 8.2 miles (4.3 up, 3.9 down) and Wasson Peak is 1800 feet above the trailhead. Plan on needing five hours to complete this hike.

We'll meet up at the King Canyon Trailhead. Its the dirt lot 300 yards west and across the street from the Desert Museum on Kinney Road.

INTERMEDIATE LEVEL HIKE: Due to the elevation and distance, this hike is not for beginners or anyone with current health problems. Only experienced hikers should sign up for this hike.

It's a good idea to try to arrive at least 5 minutes early. On previous hikes up Wasson, I find that people forget how long it takes to drive out there. If you are running late and the group has already left, please feel free to catch up with us. WE WILL BE LEAVING AT 10:00 am SHARP!

WHAT TO BRING: sunscreen, hat, lunch, snacks, 3 liters of water.
