Madera Canyon is a fee area. https://www.fs.usda.gov/detail/coronado/passes-permits/recreation/?cid=fswdev7_018712
Drive south from Tucson on Interstate 19 to the Continental Road/Madera Canyon Exit. Turn east and follow the signs 12 miles to scenic Madera Canyon. Meet at the Whitehouse Picnic Area. It is the second parking/picnic area.
The trail begins with a gentle grade. It winds along the creek through a forest of 100+ year old Oaks, Arizona Sycamores and ancient Alligator Junipers. The canyon is also home to many species of birds. The group will continue on up the switchback trail to the Mount Wrightson Picnic Area. After a break, we will head back down to the Whitehouse Trailhead. You may return to your car at any point on the hike. Due to the elevation, I will be hiking at a slower pace and taking several breaks. Friendly dogs on leashes are welcome!
