Get ready to explore the stunning wonderland of rock formations within the Chiricahua National Monument!

When & Where to Meet

  • Sunday, February 15th
  • Carpool meeting location: is the Pilot Parking Lot (I-10, Rita Ranch Exit 273). 9255 S. Rita Rd
  • Time: arrive at the Pilot Parking no later than 7:45 am because we will leave promptly at 8:00 am
  • Estimated Return to Pilot: no earlier than 4:00 pm

The Journey to the Trailhead: the Chiricahua National Monument is about 112 miles (approx. 2-hour drive) from our carpool location. Drivers Needed! I have already committed 3 passengers in my SUV. We need at least 2 more volunteer drivers to make this trip work smoothly. Riders, please be ready to compensate your driver a minimum of $10 to cover gas and wear-and-tear. There is NO entrance fee at the Monument.

Trail Details: we'll be tackling a classic and incredibly scenic loop, offering countless photo opportunities! Ed Riggs Trail to Hailstone Trail, to Echo Canyon Trail for a closed loop. If you hiked with me in December we are doing the same trails but in a reverse order. Often when reversing the order we see things we missed going the other direction!

Expectations:

  • Distance: 3.2 miles RT
  • Difficulty: Moderate
  • Estimated Hiking Time: 3 hours

Suggestions:

  • Bring a packed lunch and snacks
  • Bring a minimum 2 liter of water
  • Standard hiking layers, hat, sunblock, hiking boots, poles and camera/phone (You'll want photos!)

This is a moderate hike. Please sign up only if you are a confident and experienced hiker who can keep pace with the group. I won't holdup the entire group for one hiker.

Ready to reserve your spot for this adventure? When you rsvp let me know if you plan to be a Driver or a Rider.
