With the cool-down on the way, we can start to return to lower elevations for our hikes.

Join us for the iconic Blackett's Ridge ascent in Sabino Canyon. This hike is rated Intermediate-Advanced, with an elevation gain of 1,778 feet. Accordingly, you should be a regular hiker in good shape if you sign up.

The trail starts at the Sabino Canyon Visitor's Center. The first .8 miles are completely flat, through a combination of the Bear Canyon Trail and the road. We then climb a moderately steep section of the Phoneline Trail for .6 miles, before taking the steep Blackett's Ridge trail 1.7 miles to the end. This is an out-and-back hike totaling 6.2 miles.

Our expected hike time is 3 hours, with a total hike of 3 1/2 hours, including rest time. This equates to a hike speed of 2.1 miles per hour, faster on the flat, slower on the Blackett's Ridge ascent. This speed may be considered fast, considering the steepness of the ascent.

Remember to bring at least 1 liter of water for the 3 1/2 hour Sabino Canyon charges $8 for admission, unless you have a national parks pass, which you should display on your dashboard.
