Bug Springs Trail

Details
Distance: 4.6 miles or 9.2 miles round trip
Elevation Gain: 1,200 feet or 2,000 feet accumulated
We'll do the Bug Springs trail on the Catalina Highway. This trail more-or-less parallels the road (but separated from it by a ridge) and runs from its southern trailhead just north of the Gordon Hirabayashi campground up to its northern trailhead at the Bear Canyon picnic area, just south of the General Hitchcock campground.
The trail is 4.6 miles long; I will be going out and back for a total of 9.2 miles; there is an approx. 1200' elevation gain end-to-end, but the true elevation gain is more as the trail has ups and downs as it crosses a couple of ridges. Depending on your hiking speed, allow 2 - 3 hours each way. This is an Intermediate+ hike, it's steep in places. No beginners! Hike at your own pace, don't feel you have to keep up with the faster hikers. I have a medium/fast pace, but I will stop occasionally to let slower people catch up. If there is a much slower (or faster) group we may split into two (or more) separate groups.
We will meet meet at LeBuzz Bakery at Catalina Highway and Tanque Verde at 8:00 AM for carpool.
Bring a good attitude and perhaps the following:
2-3 liters of water
Lunch
Hat
Sun protection
To park at the trailhead, your vehicle will need a Mt. Lemmon/Sabino Canyon pass.
No dogs please.
See you Sunday for some fresh air and exercise!
The weather should be perfect!
Hike at your own risk.
